The new guidance comes into effect from January 8, 2025
Starting from January 8, 2025, the United Kingdom will require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for Brazilian citizens, according to information published on the UK Government’s website. Applications for this authorization will open on November 27, 2024.
To obtain the ETA, travelers will need to pay a fee of £10 (approximately R$72.80), and this requirement also applies to children and infants. The authorization will allow visitors to access not only England but also Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
With a validity of two years, the ETA allows tourists to visit the UK as many times as they wish within this period, although each stay must not exceed six months. If the traveler's passport changes, a new authorization will be required.
The application process for the ETA is done online through a specific website, where travelers will need their passport, access to their email, and a credit or debit card (or payment options such as Apple Pay and Google Pay). During the process, applicants will need to upload photos of their passport and their face.
According to the British government, the estimated time to receive a response for the authorization is around three business days, though in some cases, it may take longer.
It is important to note that the issuance of an ETA does not automatically guarantee entry into the UK. Travelers will still need to go through immigration services upon arrival.
Additionally, the ETA requirement is not exclusive to Brazilians, as citizens from many countries will need to follow this process.
Finally, the ETA will not be necessary for those who already have permission to live, work, or study in the UK, as well as for citizens holding a British, Irish, or British Overseas Territories passport.
