From April 28th, applications made under the Foreigners Law will only be received when they are complete, that is, when they have all the documents that the law defines and requires.

On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, AIMA: Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum issued a statement announcing important changes to its service rules. According to the agency, starting from April 28, applications submitted under the Foreigners’ Law will only be accepted if accompanied by complete documentation.
This means that, from now on, applications will only be accepted for analysis and decision if all the documents defined and required by law are provided.
Both requests for the granting and renewal of residence permits must be submitted with all required elements and documents, as established in Law No. 23/2009, of July 4, and Regulatory Decree No. 01/2024, of January 17.

According to AIMA, applications submitted incompletely — that is, without the necessary documentation — will not be accepted at the time of service, which may lead to significant delays or even the rejection of the entire process.
It is now standard procedure for all applicants to pay maximum attention and care in preparing their application to avoid delays, ensuring that all legally required documents are in their possession at the time of service.
AIMA also emphasized that a properly prepared process from the outset is essential to ensure a faster and more efficient analysis, contributing to a quicker response from the competent services.
